Estate Planning Session
Say who gets what while you can still say it
Service Description
One hour with the attorney about what happens to everything you own. We go through whether you need a will or a revocable living trust, who ends up in charge if you cannot make decisions for yourself, and how probate works in the District of Columbia and Maryland when nobody plans around it. We look at your retirement accounts and your beneficiary forms, because those pass outside your will and they beat whatever your trust says. If you already have documents, bring them. I will read them and tell you which parts are out of date, and the retirement rules have been rewritten twice since 2019, so plenty of them are. We also talk about the D.C. estate tax, which kicks in well below the federal threshold and is not portable between spouses. Most people have never heard that, and for a D.C. family it is the whole ballgame. You leave with a plan you can explain to your family in your own words. Estate planning, wills, and trusts for individuals and families in the District of Columbia and Maryland.
